Shelby and Shaylee

Well our daughter sure have grown up this summer!!!!  Both girls had their birthdays here in Hawaii.  Shaylee turned 11 and since she was born on the fourth of July there are always a lot of things to do because it is a holiday.  This year was no exception.  Switchfoot and One Republic put on a free concert for all of the military families so we decided to go up for that.  Since we knew it was going to be crowded we left extra early so we could find parking.  The other bad thing is that we were very unprepared for the heat and long day since we were still living out of suitcases.  Luckily they had vendors selling camping chairs, umbrellas, water and these really cool cooling towels.  The girls got to meet Switchfoot and we were really close to the stage since we had gotten there so early.  It was a lot of fun!

Next both girls started school at their new school.  Luckily here they do middle school so at least the girls had eachother.  Shelby is in 8th grade and Shaylee is in 6th.  My favorite part of their new school is their uniform shirts.  Love it!  No more "what am I gonna wear today".  Things are very different here and the girls are somewhat having a hard time adjusting.  The locals aren't very friendly to people from the mainland.  This isn't Utah where 90% of your classmates are Mormon so there is a ton of swearing.  I do however think it is good for the girls to see what it is like to be the minority.

Last but not least we had Shelbys birthday.  Shelby turned 13 this year.  That is right we have a teenager in the house.  Her birthday actually fell on a Friday and the ward campout potluck so we went to that after school.  After the potluck we came home and she opened presents and had cheesecake.  She also got to have a sleepover with her friend as well.  The next day was the big birthday celebration where we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center.  We decided to do the whole guided tour package.  We rode in canoes, watched a 4D movie, learned a lot about the different cultures, had a great dinner and then watched the fire show.  It was a ton of fun!
